Job Description Summary
- Responsible for designing, developing, and testing embedded software (firmware), platforms, and systems that control devices and run on devices.
- This software must be tailored to the requirements of the hardware being controlled and executed (i.e., directly controlling the real-time functions of physical devices such as motors, alternators, engines, valves, fans, and other equipment and products).
- It typically requires a deep understanding of the characteristics of the physical device being controlled, the expected real-time functions, and the ability to design, develop, implement, and test the logic and software necessary to achieve that real-time functionality.
- This role is usually tailored to products and services across various profit and loss statements. Responsible for the quality of one’s own work. Subject to direct operational oversight/prescribed work instructions/system checks.
- Works within a well-defined operational framework. There is generally a step-by-step sequence of standard operational tasks that must be followed to achieve a final result.

- Designes, plans, and/or programs/develops a small module or large component, a feature, a feature set, an entire feature set, or an entire embedded software product. Some areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, networking, operating systems, cybersecurity, databases, or applications. May be responsible for the development of an entire product.
