About the Role:-

  • Tesco is seeking a Decision Scientist to enable data-driven decision-making across its global business. In this role, you will develop advanced analytics solutions that combine mathematical modeling, technology, and business knowledge to drive strategic initiatives.
  • You will work with cross-functional teams to identify key opportunities, build predictive and prescriptive models, and provide actionable insights that inform business strategies across Retail, CPG, and other functional domains.

Qualifications:-

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in one of the following (or equivalent):

  • Statistics
  • Mathematics
  • Data Science
  • Computer Science
  • Engineering
  • Business Analytics
  • Economics or related quantitative fields

Skills Required:-

Technical Skills

  • Applied Mathematics & Statistics: Design of Experiments, Linear & Logistic Regression, Decision Trees, Forecasting, Optimization algorithms.
  • Programming & Tools: SQL, Hadoop, Python, Tableau, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Storyboarding skills to communicate insights effectively to stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills for working across diverse teams.

Experience & Domain Knowledge

  • 1–2 years of practical experience applying data science in Retail, CPG, or related industries.
  • Functional experience in areas like Marketing, Supply Chain, Customer Analytics, Merchandising, Operations, Finance, or Digital is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:-

As a Decision Scientist at Tesco, you will be responsible for:

  • Business Engagement: Engage with business and functional partners to understand priorities, ask relevant questions, and translate requirements into analytical solution documents demonstrating how data science can drive better decision-making.
  • Data Preparation: Design and prepare complex analytical datasets by integrating multiple data sources, ensuring quality, completeness, and accuracy.
  • Model Development: Build statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and predictive models to solve business challenges, optimize operations, and generate actionable insights.
  • Algorithm Codification: Write structured, modularized, and reusable algorithms, leveraging continuous improvement principles. Maintain knowledge assets on platforms like GitHub, Wiki, or internal repositories for future scalability.
  • Data Visualization: Create intuitive visualization layers on top of models using Tableau, Python, or PowerPoint dashboards to enable easy decision-making for business stakeholders.
  • Proactive Problem Solving: Identify opportunities beyond immediate project scope to address larger business questions and suggest data-driven solutions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with line managers, analytics teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure insights are applied and consumed effectively.
